If awarded a full fellowship, you will be assigned to an expedition. Earthwatch staff assigns fellows to projects according to your skills, interests, availability, project need, and grant restrictions. The Education Fellowship Program operates independently of the standard reservation process. We try to make an appropriate project assignment based on what you have told us in your application. This is sometimes, but not always, your "first choice." If you have your heart set on a particular expedition, the Education Fellowship Program is not the best option. The purpose of the fellowships are to offer teachers the opportunity to join an Earthwatch research experience in their subject area, not to provide direct funding for specific expeditions.

Earthwatch reserves the right of final assignment and cannot guarantee individual project requests. Project assignments may also depend on the amount of personal or school funds you have to support your travel. Answer each question honestly to avoid being placed on a team that is inappropriate for you or beyond your means.

We encourage you to pursue independent funding to support your expedition, and feel free to check out our Funding Yourself page. This may allow you to have the flexibility of selecting your own expedition, and secure follow-up funds for materials and supplies when you return from your expedition.
