Innovations and Earthwatch are teaming up to reward architects and designers who have demonstrated a commitment to sustainable design by creating the "Innovations Earthwatch Challenge."

Winners of this fellowship will be offered the opportunity to participate on one of pre-selected Earthwatch expeditions. As Earthwatch Challenge fellows, these fellows will make a meaningful contribution to scientific research and will receive a powerful opportunity to find inspiration in the natural world.

Earthwatch Challenge fellows have the choice of one of the following expeditions (subject to availability). Select a Project Title to learn more about the expedition, research and team length and dates.

  Project Title

Sharks and Rays of Monterey
Help seven species of sharks and rays recover from the devastating shark hunts of the mid 1900s.

As any past Earthwatch volunteer will tell you, the work can be physically challenging, but the experience is immensely rewarding.

The Earthwatch Challenge fellowship includes the cost of participating in the expedition and airfare expenses for transportation to the expedition site.  Fellows are responsible for nominal incidental costs associated with your participation.  These incidentals may include, but are not limited to: passports, visas, physician visits, inoculations, clothing, equipment, and meals and accommodations outside the expedition dates.

In addition to participating fully in the expedition, Earthwatch Challenge fellows are responsible for bringing the experience back to their workplaces and communities by making a presentation to colleagues, completing an evaluation of the fellowship, and reflecting on the experience in a letter to Innovations.
