Wells Fargo Fellowship Program

Leave behind the four walls of your classroom and embark on a unique journey of discovery and action.  Thanks to Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., you can join an Earthwatch-supported scientific research team examining the impacts of climate change.  You do not need any special skills to join an expedition; just a sense of adventure and a willingness to lend a hand. Adventurous and innovative educators who have an interest in the impacts of climate change, sustainability, and life-long learning are encouraged to apply.

Fellowships
Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. will provide ten fellowship opportunities through Earthwatch for educators in Wells Fargo Bank communities. Selected fellows will be placed on an Earthwatch expedition examining the impacts of climate change in North America or the Caribbean. The fellowship covers all costs associated with the research including accommodations and a stipend for transportation to the research site. Additionally, the fellowship includes compensation to your school for substitute teacher fees, and a $300 grant to implement a local community conservation project.

While on the expedition, the participating teachers will connect with their students in the classroom using web-based and satellite technology.  Fellows will communicate with their classroom and school from one of the following expeditions:

Earthwatch expeditions are one-to three-week field research projects that will give you the opportunity to enhance your classroom instruction with new scientific skills and knowledge while you renew your sense of wonder about the world.

Wells Fargo Teacher Fellowships support educator professional development, enhance science and technology education within the classroom, and further a fellow's understanding of climate change issues.

Eligibility
K-12 classroom teachers are eligible. Fellowships are awarded by Earthwatch through a competitive process. Fellows are assigned to climate change research projects according to their interests, skills, availability, and research team needs.  Please see the application for details.

Fellowship Requirements
Fellowship recipients will connect with their classroom and community "live from the field" using satellite and internet technology during the expedition.  While in the field, Earthwatch provide technology support to allow fellows to communicate and teach as they contribute to the research efforts. After returning from the field, fellowship recipients will be responsible for submitting a report to Earthwatch that summarizes their experience and details how they will further share their expedition experience with their classroom, school and community.
