Each year, at the annual conference, Earthwatch presents one principal investigator with an award recognizing their outstanding research and conservation outcomes. Eligible scientists have run an Earthwatch project for multiple years, maintained a high quality of scientific inquiry, and made a worthwhile contribution at the community, regional, and global level. Principal investigators who receive the award have received consistently positive reviews from volunteers. Awardees receive a one-time $2,000 stipend at the annual conference, along with Earthwatch publicity around the award.
