Each year, this scholarship provides for an ecology graduate student to experience the hands-on learning and adventure of assisting on an Earthwatch field research expedition. Not only does the student receive a boost to their career, but the principal investigator receives a valuable asset to their project. The scholarship honors Michael Rose, a graduate field assistant on Dr. Gary Polis' Baja Island Predators project, who died with Gary in a boating accident in 2000. Eligible candidates are graduate students sharing Michael's leadership, curiosity, enthusiasm, communication skills, and zest for life. Awardees receive the full share of project costs and travel expenses up to $3000.
