Join Starbucks Coffee Company and Earthwatch to conduct critical research at a coffee cooperative in Costa Rica. Twenty lucky customers will be selected to work with the scientists and coffee farmers at CoopeTarrazu and make a meaningful contribution to agricultural sustainability in Central America.
If selected, you'll work closely with scientists and the farmers of CoopeTarrazu in central Costa Rica. Much of the expedition's research will help build Geographic Information System (GIS) maps of farms in the cooperative, and these maps will help farmers better understand the impact of farming practices on their land. The mapping process will help identify the impact of shade trees, biodiversity, soil quality, and minimizing erosion on coffee production. And the resaearch will help link these factors with outcomes such as yield, coffee quality, and resistance to pests.
As any Earthwatch volunteer will tell you, the work will be challenging but rewarding, fun and important. It's a chance of a lifetime! Visit online for details and official rules to enter.
