In your will you have a rare opportunity to help Earthwatch, a not-for-profit organisation that is committed to conserving the diversity and integrity of life on Earth to meet the needs of current and future generations.
Continue the Work of Earthwatch Through Your Will
The way Earthwatch works and our approach to engaging individuals and organisations in our activities is just as important as the research and education program we carry out.
By making a bequest to Earthwatch, you can play a vital part to support our long term goals in helping us address important environmental issues that effect people and the environment.
Earthwatch Institute (Australia) is a not-for-profit organisation registered in Australia, ABN No: 25 875 253 851 and has Deductible Gift Recipient status.
If you wish to help us continue our comittment to conserve the worlds diversity and intergrity beyond your lifetime, please join us. Like many other bequest supporters who have chosen to make this very special gift, you’ll be helping ensure that those who follow us will be left with a world that offers them the diversity, beauty and opportunity that we have all enjoyed.
Choosing Your Bequest
It’s important to seek the advice of a qualified solicitor or trustee when making your will. The Law Institute or Association in your State or Territory can refer you to a solicitor.
Here are some ways in which you can make a bequest to Earthwatch Institute:
- leave the residue of your estate after specific bequests have been left to family and friends
- leave a nominated portion or a fixed percentage of your estate. This guards against the effects of inflation over time
- leave a specific gift, such as property or shares
- nominate Earthwatch Institute as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy or superannuation (you will need to nominate this directly with your superannuation fund).
Remember to review your will every few years to ensure it still reflects your wishes.
The Right Wording
It is not possible for Earthwatch to provide wording for your will. We can only recommend that you speak with your solicitor and clearly explain your intentions.
To be certain that your bequest reaches us, it is important to use our full legal name Earthwatch Institute and include our registered Australian Business Number (ABN 25 875 253 851).
Adding to an Existing Will
If your existing will is satisfactory but you would like to include a bequest to Earthwatch Institute, you can add a codicil. It must be signed and witnessed in the same way as your Will. Always seek legal advice when making any changes to your will.
Please Let us Know
We understand that making your will is a very personal matter. But if you have already included Earthwatch Institute in your will, or are considering doing so, it is a great help if you let us know. We would like to thank you personally, and this provides the opportunity for you to discuss your wishes with us.
All bequest information passed on to Earthwatch Institute is held in the utmost confidence.
Taxation Implications
Earthwatch Institute is a prescribed Deductible Gift Recipient ( ABN 25 875 253 851) for the purposes of tax deductibility of donations made to us.
Earthwatch Institute is also a prescribed organisation as a Charitable Institution and an Income Tax Exempt Charity, with consequent taxation exemption benefits.
Earthwatch Institute recommends that you seek independent financial and legal advice about the tax implications of a donation or bequest.
