Fundraising for a Green DayA recent Green Day hosted by Natalie Mizzi and her school friends from Catholic Regional College Caroline Springs raises over $150 for Earthwatch.
As part of the DEAL (Deep Engaged Active Learning) project at the Caroline Springs College, students proudly wore green clothes, had a 'Nude Food Lunch' (rubbish and wrapping free) and held their own Earth Hour during selected classes by turning the lights off.
Students who participated donated a small amount to Natalie's chosen cause; Earthwatch Australia.
Earthwatch Fundraising Mananger, Caroline Bayer explains: "It was totally unexpected. I received an email from Natalie who had selected Earthwatch as her charity of choice, and her idea for a Green Day was really effective.
"Natalie has managed to get a lot of people on board with Green Day and it’s something anyone can do."
With a keen interest and commitment to helping to protect the environment, Natalie and another friend have written and recorded a song about global warming called "Make a Change". The song has been posted on YouTube where it has received over 600 hits.
Natalie enthusiastically presented a report of the results of Green Day along with a Certificate of Excellence to Earthwatch on behalf of the students and teachers at Catholic Regional College Caroline Springs.
Natalie explains: "I hope you enjoy what we have raised for you because I believe that you deserve every cent of it plus more. Earthwatch is a great organisation and it's great to see that there are people out there making a change."
Many thanks to Natalie and all of the students and staff at Catholic Regional College Caroline Springs, for choosing to support the critical environmental research work of Earthwatch.
