Congratulations to Melody Serena (Platypus in Farmland Areas) and Dr Peggy Rismiller (Echidnas and Goannas of Kangaroo Island) for being awarded Medals of the Order of Australia (OAM) on 12 June, 2006.

The Queen's Birthday Awards recognise their commitment and service to the environment through scientific research and conservation of the biodiversity of Australian wildlife.

They have worked tirelessly with Earthwatch Australia and Earthwatch Volunteers on their expeditions and we would like to take this opportunty to congratulate them both on their OAM Award for Science, Research and Education.

In the Australian honours system appointments to the Order of Australia confer the highest recognition for outstanding achievement and service.

The Australian system of honours and awards was established in 1975.  The institution of the Order of Australia is an Australian society of honour for according recognition to Australian citizens and other persons for achievement or meritorious service.
