In 2011, Amcor and Earthwatch celebrate their 10th Anniversary of working in partnership. Evolved in 2001, the partnership aims to improve the understanding of critical environmental issues amongst Amcor's staff around the world. By contributing to a genuine research project Amcor staff learn first hand how they can make a difference and take positive steps towards a sustainable future.

BHP Billiton Iron Ore
In 2009 BHP Billiton Iron Ore supported a taxonomic research blitz on Charles Darwin Reserve in Western Australia to establish baseline information about the biodiversity protected in the property. This research blitz discovered four species new to science and six species that had not previously been found on CDR. The pilot program led to the development of the national Bush Blitz program (see below). BHP Billiton Iron Ore now directly support the on-going research at Charles Darwin Reserve, offering professional development opportunities to staff by joining the scientists on the project each year.

BHP Billiton
BHP Billiton is the founding partner of Bush Blitz, Australia’s largest nature discovery project. Bush Blitz is a three-year multimillion dollar partnership to document the plants and animals in hundreds of properties across Australia’s National Reserve System. Bush Blitz is expected to uncover hundreds of new species and provide the baseline scientific data that will help us protect our biodiversity for generations to come. Bush Blitz is a globally unique cross-sector partnership drawing on the knowledge and expertise of government, non-government organisations, industry and science to document the biodiversity of the oldest continent on Earth and provide an international benchmark for biodiversity knowledge.
Bush Blitz is an initiative of BHP Billiton, the Australian Government through the Australian Biological Resources Study and Caring for Our Country, AusPlots - Rangelands, based at the University of Adelaide.
Bush Blitz also involves State and Territory conservation, primary industry and agricultural agencies, Australia’s museums and herbaria, CSIRO, leading universities, the Atlas of Living Australia and the Australian Science Teachers Association.

As part of its ongoing commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable resource management Brother has joined forces with Earthwatch to help find solutions to some of Australia's biggest environmental challenges.
Since 2008, the Brother Earthwatch partnership has involved direct support of scientific research which focuses on tackling climate change and the conservation of natural resources. In addition, the program provides Brother employees and customers the opportunity to volunteer their time as ‘Citizen Scientists' to be actively involved in these projects by providing hands-on assistance to the researchers in the field.

Ernst & Young has been an Earthwatch supporter internationally since 2009, sending selected employees on volunteer expeditions. Additionally, the volunteers use their professional skills to help scientists develop new business procedures and strategies. In 2012, Ernst & Young Oceania and Earthwatch Australia will add to this global partnership by sending selected employees on The Daintree’s Hidden Coastlines, investigating mangrove research and restoration in Northern Queensland. Staff will also apply their business skills and assist scientists in developing a strategic report which will inform the establishment of a collaborative mangrove research network across Asia-Pacific.

Each year hundreds of young Singaporeans complete levels of the NYAA. Since 2004, HSBC Singapore has partnered with Earthwatch to provide recipients of the NYAA's Youth Environment Award an excellent learning opportunity by participating on a regional Earthwatch project through the HSBC / NYAA Earthwatch Study Trip.

Respect for the Community and Environment is a core value at Leighton Contractors. In 2010, Leighton Contractors partnered with Earthwatch to implement a community investment program to support environmental activities across Australia. Through this commitment to supporting the protection and creation of sustainable environments, Leighton Contractors employees will work with Earthwatch in a three-tiered program including ClimateWatch, Scientist for a Day and a Green Champions Field Program immersing employees in a “Living Case Study” of sustainability issues and guiding them to understand how they can be part of the solution.

Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) is a global integrated business enterprise with business ranging from natural resources development to investment in retail business, infrastructure, financial products and manufacturing of industrial goods.
As part of their efforts to realise a sustainable society, MC established the Global Coral Reef Conservation Project in 2005. This project aims to help conserve valuable ecosystems worldwide, and is currently conducting research in Australia, Okinawa and the Seychelles. In Australia, MC directly supports the Recovery of the Reef on Orpheus Island, in collaboration with Mitsubishi Australia Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of MC.

National Australia Bank
NAB has partnered with Earthwatch since 2007 and provides employees with the opportunity to participate in various conservation expeditions, complimenting NAB's existing volunteering and community offerings.
Earthwatch expeditions assist in the development of leadership and risk taking capabilities for participants through challenging, unfamiliar experiences, which is then harnessed by NAB. Upon return, participants are encouraged to share their experience and their greater understanding of big, environmental and ecological issues with various stakeholders both internal and external to NAB.

Gladstone Power Station was originally introduced to Earthwatch's work through one of their employees joining the Rio Tinto Earthwatch Employee Fellowship Program in 2002. The fellow felt the personal and professional development outcomes from the experience were exceptional and in 2006 championed Gladstone Power Station to establish an Earthwatch Employee Fellowship Program of their own.
Since 2007 Gladstone Power Station have partnered with Earthwatch to offer Fellowships on projects that take staff out of their comfort zone and allow them to experience the Australian environment in a new context. The Program aims to help build a "sustainability culture" within the company and provide staff with a unique way to experience and learn about the environment.

Starting in 1996, Parks Victoria was one of Earthwatch's first ‘Sustaining Members' which allowed us to expand our programs and take the first steps to developing the suite of programs we have available today. Since 2002, Parks Victoria have supported Earthwatch's research by sending skilled staff on projects relevant to the issues faced by Victoria's parks and waterways.

Since its inception in 1990, Earthwatch’s global partnership with Rio Tinto has initiated a range of innovative programs that have enhanced biodiversity conservation around the world. Rio Tinto is the founding sponsor of ClimateWatch – an Australian citizen-science program providing hands-on opportunities for the general public to make a difference and help shape Australia’s response to climate change.
Rio Tinto also support the Samburu Community Climate Change Mapping Programme at the Earthwatch regional research centre in Kenya. This project aims to develop a comprehensive land use and climate change model for the area, and to establish a sustainable business model for the development and operation of Earthwatch's network of regional research centres worldwide.

Schweppes Australia
In early 2011, Earthwatch and Schweppes Australia engaged in a partnership to deliver an intensive Learning Program for Schweppes staff to participate in Earthwatch research projects on an annual basis. The Learning Program sees participants go through a more rigorous sustainability training program allowing them the opportunity to consider the practicalities of existing business operations and make recommendations for improvement across their respective areas of the business. The program complements Schweppes Australia's existing environmental programs.

Teaming with Earthwatch, CSIRO and other collaborating organisations, the Shell TeachWild program has been developed to improve knowledge about marine debris issues in the waters around Australia. Shell TeachWild will deliver an innovative national partnership that connects regional and remote teachers, students and Shell employees through experiential learning aimed at tackling the global issue of marine debris. Its particular focus will be on the Northern Territory, Western Australia and Queensland where school teachers and students from upper primary through secondary school will be able to contribute important data as they gain a greater understanding of the issue through real-life marine research experiences.

TransGrid's commitment to integrating sustainability issues into their business activities through the development of staff led the company to establish a partnership with Earthwatch in 2005. Earthwatch projects present a unique learning experience and proved a natural fit with TransGrid's focus on staff training and development to equip them with the skills to implement sustainable practices into their job roles and daily lives. TransGrid staff engage in both long-term Earthwatch expeditions for an emmersive experience, and our Scientist for a Day program.

From 1998-2009 the Woodside and Earthwatch partnership responded to the needs of Woodside's employees and the communities in which it operated by offering a range of fellowship programs that addressed specific environmental, educational and personal development issues. This included the Woodside TeachLive program providing opportunities for Western Australian teachers to gain hands-on current scientific research experience on the Whale Sharks of Ningaloo Reef project over a five year period.
In 2011, Woodside have become the founding sponsor of ClimateWatch Marine - a national program involving the Australian community in marine research, education and conservation.
