Zoe Gamble
PR Manager - Extn: 820

Zoe GambleZoe joined Earthwatch full-time in January 2004. She manages the press office and the events department and works closely with Earthwatch's corporate partners, scientists and volunteers to communicate our good work.

She has joined five Earthwatch projects: Discovering Yorkshire's Dinosaurs, Lions of Tsavo, Grey Whale Migrations, Britain's Basking Sharks and Ghana's Rockfowl.

Zoe has a BA (Hons) in English Literature and History from the University of Sussex and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations. Before joining Earthwatch Zoe worked as an English teacher in Hong Kong and then moved to North Bali to work for a grassroots NGO targeting literacy in local primary schools. An avid traveller, Zoe loves immersing herself in new cultures. She's a keen skier, an amateur surfer and a lover of all foods that are spicy and vegetarian!


Joanne Croft
PR and Communications Officer - Extn: 806 Jo Croft

Jo started at Earthwatch in July 2007. As PR and Communications Officer, she is responsible for internal communications and media relations for Earthwatch's ground-breaking Climate Change Partnership with HSBC, promotion of Earthwatch events and volunteer projects, and maintaining the image library.

Prior to this Jo worked in media and events for the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT) for two years. She has also lived in New Zealand and France and worked as a face-to-face fundraiser for Greenpeace and as a teacher of English as a foreign language. She has a BSc in Zoology and MSc in Conservation both from UCL.

Jo loves travelling and exploring unchartered landscapes and likes to keep active in her spare time with an impressive array of interests including mountain biking, running, skiing, martial arts (ju jitsu, kung fu, wing chun, and capoeira) and skydiving.


Crispin Zeeman
Publications Manager - Extn: 890

Crispin ZeemanCrispin joined Earthwatch in July 2007 as the Publications Manager. He oversees all publications for Earthwatch Europe including the Expedition Guide, Annual Report, Earthwatcher Supporter Magazine, African Fellowships newsletter and the monthly E-newsletter. In addition, Crispin's role includes identifying print advertising opportunities, driving new advertising and design ideas, and working alongside others within the communications department towards the wider goals for Earthwatch's ongoing communications and marketing strategy.

Before joining Earthwatch, Crispin spent the last sixteen years working within the book trade, both in bookselling and publishing, in various roles including marketing. His interests lie within travel and photography, and he has recently developed his own travel photography website www.buddha34.com which features galleries of over 150 different images from 15 different destinations around the world. He hopes to expand his website within the next few months to include new themed galleries, such as environment, education and festivals.


Jane Nijssen
Press Officer - Extn: 280

Jane NijssenJane joined Earthwatch as Publications Officer in September 2005. She is currently on secondment to the PR department where she is enjoying promoting Earthwatch's volunteering programme. One of the highlights of her job is editing Earthwatch's monthly e-newsletter, which has been redesigned for 2008.

After growing up in the Peak District, Jane gained a BA Hons degree in French Studies at Nottingham University. Following an early career as a journalist with a newspaper group in North London, she moved into press and public relations working for a local authority in Hertfordshire. Prior to joining Earthwatch, she lived in the Netherlands for five years where she taught business English and freelanced as a copywriter and editor.

In her spare time she enjoys creative writing, cycling and playing tennis with her son. An avid reader, Jane's new favourite book is The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.

 


Catherine Charnock
Designer - Extn: 858

Catherine CharnockCatherine joined Earthwatch as a Publications Officer (part-time) in September 2005. She was responsible for the Annual Report and other publications, including the Capacity Building Programme Newsletter. Throughout the year Catherine's design skills impressed us so much that in September 2006, we took her on as a part-time in-house designer. Prior to joining Earthwatch Catherine worked at Oxford University, designing and producing admissions publications.

A talented artist, when she is not at Earthwatch Catherine does freelance graphic design and painting. She holds a BA (Fine Art) degree with English Literature from the University of Cape Town. She recently travelled round the world and enjoys reading and going to the gym.

Simon Laman
Events Officer - Extn: 818

Simon LamanSimon joined Earthwatch as an office volunteer in 1997, then gained full-time employment as Marketing Officer for the organisation in 1998. Subsequently he has devoted the bulk of his time as Events Officer to organising events for Earthwatch - including our open/volunteer days, our debates, and our annual lecture series at the Royal Geographical Society.

Born in Plymouth, Simon has a BA (Hons) in Modern and Medieval Languages (French and German) from Cambridge University (1972). Following graduation, he spent two years teaching mutinous schoolchildren in Cornwall, then worked as a bookseller in Blackwell's Bookshop in Oxford, before spending many years in the wilderness as an artist.

During his time with Earthwatch Simon has made a number of site visits to projects. He is a keen amateur birdwatcher, and a compulsive collector of books.


Jenny Mitchell
Image Volunteer

Jenny MitchellHaving worked in various roles within, Jenny decided to move back into the marketing team and help with the ever-expanding image library a few days a week.

Jenny took a BA (Hons) degree in Philosophy in 1968 and joined the NHS to work in administration and then in personnel, taking a professional personnel qualification in 1973. After working in a variety of personnel roles, including specialising in recruitment, industrial relations and employment law, in both the public and private sectors, Jenny took early retirement in 1997. She then joined Earthwatch as an office volunteer, before becoming its Membership Officer from 1998 until 2004, and Personnel and Facilities Manager until 2007.

She has visited Earthwatch's 'Lakes of the Rift Valley' project in Kenya, and projects studying elephants near Tsavo and Grevy's zebras at Lewa, also in Kenya. Jenny spends the rest of her time volunteering for Oxfam and travelling the world, particularly to East Africa.
