Ian Allison
Expedition Co-ordinator - Extn: 803
Having worked as a Specialist Consultant in the long-haul travel sector, Ian came to Earthwatch as Expedition Recruitment Officer in June 2006. His current role is that of Expedition Coordinator and as such he oversees the fielding of all European volunteers participating on Earthwatch projects worldwide, providing practical assistance and briefing them in preparation for a unique experience.
Ian's passions are travel and food (not necessarily in that order!) although he is also a keen conservationist and has worked with a number of volunteer organisations across Europe, Australia and South East Asia. In 2007 he joined the Earthwatch research expedition Dolphins of Greece, identifying the many threats faced by vulnerable Bottlenose Dolphins in the Mediterranean and will this summer participate in Marine Turtle conservation efforts in Terengganu, Malaysia.
Tom Berry
Expedition Recruitment Consultant - Extn: 870
Tom joined Earthwatch in April 2007 as an Expedition Recruitment Consultant. Like Ian, he is responsible for dealing with volunteer enquiries, recruiting volunteers, advising people when it comes to choosing between expeditions and briefing them in preparation for their in-field experience. He is your first point of contact with Earthwatch should you wish to get involved as a volunteer. He also forges and maintains relationships with other environmental organizations as well as travel and volunteer websites in order to ensure a high profile for Earthwatch.
Between completing a Masters degree in International Development and joining Earthwatch, Tom worked for the South African educational charity BEFSA, and Oxford-based African social justice group Fahamu. He has travelled and volunteered widely in Africa and has a strong interest in the history, politics and culture of the continent and how these interact with current environmental pressures.
