Bluewater Young Environmentalists 2010

2010 Bluewater Young Environmentalist, Elisha won a free place on a 10 day turtle conservation project in Trinidad.

Elisha, Aged 17 from Surrey

“I chose to join the Trinidad’s Leatherback Sea Turtles project, where I spent ten days working alongside the local ‘Nature Seekers’ research team and fellow volunteers. We would spend our nights on beach patrols, waiting for egg-laying female turtles to tag and record, in order to estimate the abundance of this critically endangered species.

I have always aspired to study marine biology at university, but never knew how I wanted to use my degree. This expedition sparked my interest in conservation, and so for anyone considering taking part, go for it; it is a once in a lifetime experience you will never forget!

Christie, Aged 18 from Kent

“This trip had a huge impact on my life. I got to experience South African culture and meet people with incredible backgrounds and a passion for the Environment. It helped me gain a perspective on my own life, and gave me the confidence to move away from home to study in Belfast.

I really would encourage anyone to enter this competition; the trips available offer chances and experiences many people wouldn’t normally be able to be a part of. It is the best thing I have ever done and I wish I could go back and do it all again!!”
