Animal Planet/Discovery Communications

As a member of the Animal Planet R.O.A.R. (Reach out. Act. Respond.) program since 2006, Earthwatch has been collaborating with Animal Planet to make a lasting and tangible impact on creatures around the world and protect biodiversity. The ROAR program encourages viewers and web visitors to get directly involved in animal conservation and protection efforts - in their communities and worldwide.

Through a licensing agreement, this partnership allows Earthwatch to benefit from the sale of Animal Planet’s licensed products to support our conservation initiatives. As one of the first funding recipients in the program, Earthwatch has directed the contribution to support a range of research projects that help protect animals at risk, including pink dolphins, giant river otters, and macaws of Peru's Amazon, the fossa of Madagascar, sea turtles in Costa Rica, Mexico, Australia, and Trinidad, and large animals such as rhino, lion, and elephant in Kenya.

Earthwatch’s collaboration with Animal Planet’s parent company, Discovery Communications, began in 2004-5 with the production and broadcast of the documentary film, A Year on Earth.
