Support our Science
Earthwatch is working with scientists in 30 countries around the world on over 60 research projects. Our scientists are working to find answers to some of today's most pressing environmental issues such as climate change, the responsible treatment of our oceans and the sustainable management of the world's natural resources.
Earthwatch's research model hinges on our ability to involve large numbers of people in scientific field research. We do this by grouping individuals on expedition teams of 4-20 people. But, one of the biggest challenges of this model is securing enough equipment and supplies (such as binoculars, satellite phones, walkie talkies and first aid kits) to enable every member of the team to participate fully in the scientific research. Earthwatch has difficulty securing funding for equipment and supplies despite this obvious need. By giving a gift in support of Earthwatch's science, you will contribute to the purchase of essential pieces of equipment and supplies that our scientists so desperately need to continue their vital research.
Such items include:
Binoculars are an essential piece of equipment for many of our research projects. Quality binoculars cost between £150 and £200.
Satellite Phones, Walkie Talkies and First Aid Kits are critical pieces of equipment for any type of field work project. Earthwatch research projects are often situated in remote locations, far away from medical care, and often, even miles away from the nearest village. In an emergency situation, these items of equipment could be the difference between life and death. Satellite phones can cost £1000 each and annual line rental can cost £300 per year per phone. Walkie Talkies can cost £150 for a pair. Quality First Aid Kits can cost £300 each.
This donation will be used to buy equipment for whichever Earthwatch project has the greatest need.
