There is growing awareness of the need for lasting approaches to environmental exploitation in Europe.
The biggest hunting pressure is now marine fisheries, many of which are causing direct damage and disturbance to non-hunted species such as whales, dolphins and turtles. Controls on air and water pollution are also beginning to take effect, but could prove too late to counter the increasingly evident effects of climate change, deglaciation and fresh water pollution. Earthwatch is continuing to support projects addressing these issues across this complex continent.
