Earthwatch offers unique, hands-on, conservation research expeditions to school groups in stunning locations around the world, developing professional skills in a responsible and safe environment.

Lead an Earthwatch expedition, and you'll make a positive difference not only for yourself and your students, but also for the planet. You’ll participate directly in field research, working to address some of the world’s most pressing environmental issues.

Whether snorkelling through crystal clear Bahamian waters, conserving the Amazon Rainforest, excavating a Roman fort in north England, or monitoring hyaenas in South Africa, an extensive range of projects in more than twenty countries allows you to engage and educate your students beyond the boundaries of a classroom.

You’ll work with world-class scientists and local communities to help protect natural and cultural resources, encouraging both professional and personal growth and reinforcing classroom teaching.  You'll be making a significant contribution to the welfare of our planet and its diverse inhabitants, not only by learning, but also by putting knowledge into practise.

And we’ll help you every step of the way.

School group expeditions are usually limited to students aged 15 and up.

Helping you organise your expedition

Whether you go over school breaks, during the summer, or at some other time, we'll work with you to design an expedition schedule that works for you. However, the sooner you start talking to us about your preferred project(s) and dates the more likely we are to be able to organise it. So don't delay, email James Fry or call +44 (0) 1865 318831 between 9am and 5pm (GMT) for more information. We will be happy to answer any questions you have regarding suitable projects, dates, contribution rates, student ages, etc.

Earthwatch expeditions are the best

  • In a study of 155 available opportunities worldwide, National Geographic Adventure ranked Earthwatch number one in both volunteering and education.
  • Bradt's Wildlife & Conservation Volunteering, The Complete Guide, names Earthwatch as one of the top international wildlife and conservation organisations, with Earthwatch being the only organisation to achieve the maximum score for its ‘demonstrable achievements' - the area that the book describes as 'potentially the most important criterion for assessing organisations'.
