Are you passionate about environmental education? If so, you could be part of an international charity that’s achieving great things: Earthwatch.

About Us
Earthwatch is committed to conserving the diversity and integrity of life on earth. Our mission is to engage people worldwide in scientific field research and education, in order to promote the understanding and action necessary for a sustainable environment. As part of our team, you can help us take a big step forward.

About the Role
Earthwatch is very aware of the huge educational potential of the environmental research it supports globally. We actively engage with people in the countries, communities and institutions where we operate. The principle focus of this role will be contributing to the Oman Earthwatch Programme, a programme of environmental research, education and training activities, underway within the Sultanate of Oman. You will also be called upon to contribute to other Earthwatch programmes as and when required. You’ll be part of our global Learning department – which means you’ll be an active member of a community of practice, contributing to global standards and sharing your knowledge with the wider team.

This role will give you the unique chance to engage not just with Omani citizens – including school pupils, teachers and scientists – but with the Omani Ministry of Education. You will look to develop opportunities to influence the environmental education agenda nationally through the Omani National Curriculum, by writing and producing environmental educational materials. It’s a golden opportunity to make a substantial impact to environmental education practices within a rapidly changing country – and we are looking to recruit an individual who is as excited about this as we are. You’ll relish the chance to work closely with the newly emerging National Field Research Centre for Environmental Conservation (NFRCEC) in Muscat, working closely with the Education Manager, and building a legacy for further such work, by mentoring them and their team. When you’re not dealing with senior figures, your focus will always be on maximising opportunities to engage with Omani teachers, pupils and schools.

About You
An inspiring and motivated professional, you will have taught or delivered environmental education/sciences before. You’re used to working with schools, the education system or curriculum development, analysing learning needs and implementing suitable interventions. What’s more, you are an articulate and capable mentor and trainer – able to present convincingly and coach others. You build relationships easily and have the desire to educate people of all ages, knowledge-levels and abilities.

Arabic language skills would clearly be an advantage, along with experience of the Middle East. At the very least, you should have experience of other cultures, with the diplomacy skills and confidence to work with senior staff in government ministries and other institutions.

Above all, you must share our passion for environmental education and for the Middle East. To succeed you must be patient and positive, with infectious enthusiasm and a determined, can-do attitude.

Please note that this role requires you to move to Oman or to spend significant periods of time there between September and May.
