RESPONSIBLE TO
Corporate Partnership Manager (Agriculture & Land Use)

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Support Earthwatch's Mission through the BATBP programme. The Project Officer will deliver specific contributions to projects that embed biodiversity in BAT, and to BAT funded Earthwatch projects including ‘Maintaining Ecosystem Services in Forests of SE Asia‘.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

DELIVER BATBP OPERATIONAL PROJECTS OR PROJECT COMPONENTS
Plan and deliver specific projects or components in the BATBP 2010 programme which aims to embed biodiversity in BAT. These may include:

  • Development and delivery of training packages on biodiversity for BAT staff
  • Contributions to Biodiversity Risk Assessments and Action Plans in BAT operating countries
  • Contributions to development and delivery of global review meetings
  • Liaise with Engagement department on Small Grant project

SUPPORT BATBP FUNDED RESEARCH PROJECTS
(Primarily ‘Maintaining Ecosystem Services in Forests of South East Asia‘)

  • Coordinate information and donor reporting on BATBP funded projects
  • Carry out field trips to BATBP funded research projects if required


CONTRIBUTE TO DEVELOPMENT OF THE BATBP TERM 3 PROGRAMME
With guidance from the Partnership Manager

  • Liaise with the BATBP virtual delivery team, and support colleagues in the Research, Engagement and Learning departments to develop plans and budgets for Term 3

INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION

  • Prepare meeting agendas and minutes
  • Prepare project documents, reports and communications
  • Carry out research on issues related to agriculture, forestry and biodiversity, and inform dialogues on these issues within Earthwatch and BATBP
  • Liaise with Earthwatch colleagues and counterparts in BAT and NGO Partners

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE

Qualifications

  • Good BSc or preferably MSc in an Ecology/ Biology/ Environmental Management discipline

Skills

  • Good research skills
  • Good training/ facilitation/presentation skills: good communicator in a workshop setting
  • Good writing skills for reports and project documents
  • Able to represent Earthwatch and BATBP internationally and with corporate colleagues
  • Willing to travel

Experience

  • At least 2 years' experience of research or conservation work in a relevant field (forest/ agriculture/ land use related), including voluntary work
  • Good background in biodiversity conservation issues
  • Experience of field work in developing countries will be a significant advantage.
  • Experience of working with business and NGOs will be an advantage.
