Earthwatch announce Environmental awards for students 2005

All full time students with a passion for the environment and conservation are able to apply for a £500 grant towards the cost of one of our international environmental research projects. Grants will be awarded according to applicants' ability to demonstrate their enthusiasm for the subject.

Earthwatch is pleased to offer teachers of all disciplines and environmental educators across the UK, the opportunity to get closer to nature. Lucky winners of the Earthwatch Environmental Awards will have the unique opportunity to join an Earthwatch UK Discovery Project in 2005. They will also receive a £125 grant to ‘kick start' an environmental project in their school or local area.

Oxford Brookes University staff development grants 2004-2006

In support of the initiation of the ‘United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development' in January 2005, and in recognition of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on co-operation between Oxford Brookes University and the Earthwatch Institute (Europe), the University has decided to make available a number of grants for personal staff development to both non-teaching and teaching staff.

William Bauress, a Special School Teacher from Palatine Special School in Worthing, West Susssex, has won an Earthwatch Environmental Award for Primary Teachers and the opportunity to join leading scientists on a field research project in the UK.

Jenni Dale, A Primary Teacher from Chingford Hall Primary School in Essex, has won an Earthwatch Environmental Award for Primary Teachers and Educators and the opportunity to join leading scientists on a field research project in the UK.

2004 National Environmental Awards winners announced.

The awards are part of an ongoing national programme run by Earthwatch and sponsored by Amerada Hess, the oil and gas exploration and production company. Now in their third year, the awards have so far provided 60 educators with the opportunity to join Earthwatch projects and gain practical experience of environmental research in Britain.

Earthwatch millennium award winners hit the conservation jackpot

The success of the Earthwatch Millennium Award scheme was today announced with the 435 winners generating 17½ years of conservation man hours and instigating the planting of 42,108 trees, the conducting of 1,757 wildlife surveys and the creation of 600 bird, bat and wildlife homes/boxes.
