A first for teachers
This month sees the first all-science teacher team on an Earthwatch project. Through support from GlaxoSmithKline, Julie Mackay from Earthwatch Institute (Europe) and four secondary teachers from across the UK will join the Earthwatch project Britain's Basking Sharks based off the west coast of Scotland. The team will make a promotional and educational video and explore ways that this project and wider environmental issues can be incorporated into the school curriculum.
In addition, educational publisher Reed Elsevier has sponsored their first volunteer team. Five of the company's UK-based employees and three UK-based school teachers will join the Earthwatch project Monitoring British Mammals, in Oxfordshire's Wytham Woods.
