MK Goes Above and Beyond!

Man-Kei “MK” Tam, Regional Programme Manager for Earthwatch’s Hong Kong office, finished Sunday’s 2012 London marathon in just three hours and fifteen minutes.

MK was taking time out of a UK visit to run the marathon for Earthwatch. So far, he has raised £1,660 – surpassing his target of £1,500!

Fresh from the finishing line, MK said:

"Gorgeous weather, sunshine and a mild temperature were the perfect conditions to make a good time – and euphoria crept in my body! My original target was three hrs and nine minutes, but I thought, 'Why not try a sub-three? I’ll see how it goes.'

"I was in Zone 2 at the beginning which was relatively near the front, and the runners all looked very fit – which also helped to put me in a faster pace. I made exactly one hour and thirty minutes in the first half marathon and I was feeling great. However I hit the wall at around 20miles - earlier than I had predicted. I tried to push, but my body refused to listen! My energy dropped sharply, and had I not thought of all the faces of the people who had supported my run, I may not have been able to cross the finish line. My eventual finishing time was three hours and fifteen minutes - not a personal new record but I don’t regret it. You always have to try to see your limits and get ready to push them further, right?

"And last but not least, thanks for all your support."
