Earthwatch joins United Nations Environment Programme to 'seal the deal'Earthwatch China Country Director Leon Chen helped to promote the United Nations Environment Programme's Seal the Deal campaign during Global Climate Week.

As part of the Seal the Deal campaign, the United Nations organised Global Climate Week from 21 to 25 September to highlight climate change issues and encourage people from every nation to urge their leaders to sign a comprehensive and fair climate agreement at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December 2009.

On September 16, International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, the Ministry of Environmental Protection of China (MEP) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) jointly organised the Seal the Deal campaign at Peking University. Mr. Chen of Earthwatch had been invited by Mr. Rajendra Shende, UNEP Ozone Action Chief, to team up with MEP and UNEP to promote the campaign in China.

Mr. Rajendra said: "The petition must be to remind the world leaders meeting in Copenhagen to negotiate to reach a fair, balanced and effective protocol to support green growth and sustainable development, protect the global environment and thus benefit the future of all mankind."
