Have a ball and help save the planet

A week in a lodge in South Africa's Kruger National Park is one of the great prizes up for auction at Earthwatch's first ever fundraising ball.

Other fantastic auction prizes on offer include a guided tour for a party of four around an RSPB Nature Reserve, and a short break to a luxury holiday cottage in Cornwall, including six free tickets to the nearby Eden Project.

The Earthwatch SustainaBall; A Celebration of Earthwatching, is an opportunity for members of the public, Earthwatch volunteers, donors, partners and affiliate NGOs to celebrate Earthwatch, at the same time raising much needed funds.

The ball will be hosted by the Sylva Foundation at the Manor House, Little Wittenham, Oxfordshire, on Saturday 13th September. A sustainable theme will be integral to the event, which will include a locally-sourced three course dinner, served with organic wines and ‘green' drinks. Guests will be encouraged to use public transport, and everything that can be will be recycled. As well as the dinner in a marquee, the evening will include an Earthwatch photographic exhibition, auction, and live music and dancing with Oxfordshire band Out of the Blue.

For those wishing to extend the fun and make a weekend of it, on Sunday 14th September, Earthwatch is running a field trip featuring a visit to Project Timescape at the nearby Northmoor Trust, a picnic on the historic Wittenham Clumps, and a behind-the-scenes tour of future sustainable forestry research with the Sylva Foundation.

The picturesque location, sustainable theme and field trip all combine to provide guests with a special experience that truly stands out from other charity fundraising balls. Funds from the event will be used to support Earthwatch's environmental education programmes worldwide which engage people from all walks of life in scientific research. Through its engagement programmes, Earthwatch aims to create an informed, inspired and environmentally aware public.
