Earthwatch appoints new executive director
Earthwatch, an international environmental conservation NGO, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Nigel Winser as the Executive Director of Earthwatch Institute (Europe) with effect from July 25, 2005.
Earthwatch's Chairman Mr. Herschel Post commented: "We are delighted to welcome Nigel to Earthwatch Institute (Europe) as our new Executive Director. He has a broad range of experience, spanning over 25 years, in funding field research and managing international programmes worldwide. Nigel brings with him a strong environmental background, commitment and vision. He is extremely well suited to helping us to achieve all of our future goals."
Nigel will be leaving his post as the Deputy Director and Head of the Expeditions and Fieldwork Division at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) where he has served since 1976. Nigel was responsible for developing and managing the Society's field research programmes, fund raising through the Corporate Benefactors' scheme, funding geographical research through the grants programme and developing the Society's enterprise activities.

Nigel has also been on the board of several geographical and conservation bodies including the IUCN UK committee, the UK Man and the Biosphere committee, the Mount Everest Foundation, the British Airways Tourism for Tomorrow committee and Friends of Conservation (Chair). He is currently a trustee of the Global Canopy Programme and the Greencard Trust.
