Are you passionate about the planet?

Earthwatch is to feature on an exciting new BBC website being developed for anyone passionate about the planet on which they live. The website, loveearth.com, has already been launched as a film support site for the BBC's ambitious new wildlife film earth.

The film earth will take you on an unforgettable journey around our planet, using the sun - our planet's life-giving star, as its guide to uncover our world's natural history and to show its effects on all of life.

loveearth.com promises visitors the chance to get close to the action and the people who brought the fantastic images and sounds of earth to the big screen.

earth, the inspirational epic, gives cinema-goers the chance to recognise and celebrate the beauty of our planet, and acts as a timely reminder of its ecological fragility which is becoming increasingly apparent.

earth closely follows the stories of a polar bear, elephant and humpback whale, the main characters of the film, watching the challenges faced by the creatures whose lives are dominated by a migratory existence in a world that is fast changing.

Using an abundance of innovative technology on an unprecedented scale, earth brings to the big screen rarely observed animal behaviours, and a view of our planet's natural history which has never before been filmed on such a scale. You can discover more about the making of earth at:

Over time loveearth.com will grow and develop into a digital destination for anyone who is passionate about the planet on which they live.

Fascinating fact files, blogs and virtual postcards encourage participation on the hot environmental topics of the day and visitors can track animals as they undertake their incredible migratory journeys on land and sea.

Earthwatch's profile on the website will include regular reports about a loggerhead turtle named Alboran, which was recently tagged on our Spanish Dolphins project. One of the project's lead scientists, Ricardo Sagarminaga van Buiten, will provide updates on the turtle's movements and what they might signify. Dolphins face threats from pollution, fishing, hunting and collisions with boat propellers, and on Spanish Dolphins scientists are documenting the range, social behaviour and ecology of common dolphins in the Alboran Sea in an effort to better understand their habitat needs.

Acting as a springboard to the best of the rest of the web, loveearth.com offers a comprehensive link to third party sites that promote a healthy planet, while a kids section ensures that loveearth.com has something for everyone.
