Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA)

Founded in 2005, TAQA (Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (PJSC)) is a global energy company and one of the largest companies listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange. TAQA prides itself as being a flagship corporation for the Government of Abu Dhabi.

"TAQA joined CERG in January 2009 as we believe that working with Earthwatch represents an exciting opportunity to continue our campaign to raise awareness of the sustainability issues affecting the world today. By leveraging Earthwatch's environmental expertise to improve energy efficiency across all of our business divisions, we aim to reinforce our position as a conscientious global organization that is wholly committed to promoting and endorsing sustainability initiatives'
- Peter Barker-Homek, CEO of TAQA.

Partnership Elements

Stakeholder Involvement

As a member of Earthwatch's Corporate Environmental Responsibility Group (CERG), TAQA is committed to working with us to help further improve their environmental performance and awareness.

TAQA strives to behave with greatest integrity in all their markets and to ensure their business is responsible and sustainable into the future. As a new energy company with a vision to become a global player in the energy sector, they are acutely aware of their potential environmental impact and strive to lead the way in reducing their environmental impact and supporting the move towards a low emissions economy.

They were the first GCC company to join the global 3C (Combat Climate Change) Initiative, a global opinion group of prominent business leaders demanding the integration of climate issues into markets and trade, and as such they hope to set a precedent in the region.

On a day to day basis, TAQA's operations around the world are taking steps to monitor and reduce emissions of harmful greenhouse gases. Emissions reduction initiatives include investment in green technology, efficient heating and cooling systems, the introduction of solar powered equipment to eliminate the venting of green house gases, upgrades to new technology to reduce fugitive, vented and flared methane, and the purchase of compression equipment with improved fuel performance.

Employee Engagement

TAQA believe that changing individual behaviour is an important step in combating environmental problems and will help to influence society's collective response and has therefore embarked upon a ‘Climate Ambassadors Programme' with Earthwatch. The programme seeks to provide an experiential learning experience for TAQA employees to help them further their knowledge and understanding of climate change.
