Tyco has been an Earthwatch Corporate Partner since 2004. As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability, Tyco places special emphasis on addressing the global demand for clean water. Most recently, Tyco and Earthwatch have worked together to:
- Conduct a community based water filtration research and implementation project to provide clean water and sanitation in the Samburu region of Kenya. The project, also aimed at alleviating human-wildlife conflict in the region, has increased the availability of potable water for the greater community, as well as to the endangered Grevy’s zebra.
- Develop a research project focused on the environmental issues in the Murray-Darling Basin, an area of Australia where severe drought and climate change have magnified water shortage issues, causing a serious deterioration in the condition of floodplain ecosystems.
The partnership between Tyco and Earthwatch emphasizes research, education and citizen involvement in conservation programs. Looking to expand on the important work that has already been accomplished, Tyco and Earthwatch are exploring initiatives to meet the ongoing challenge of providing clean water to communities in need.
