High School Group Expeditions
Getting you off the bus and into the world.

Welcome to the Earthwatch Experience.

You've found something different—and something that makes a difference—for your next off-site education experience.

Earthwatch expeditions for 2009 are booking now, and can be easily organized for groups ranging from 6 to 20 participants.

Fall enrollment deadline is October 1, 2008. In groups of six or more students, leaders do not have to pay the cost of their participation.

And whether you go over winter break, on spring break, during the summer, or at some other time, we'll work with you to design an expedition schedule that works for you.

In 2008 and 2009, Earthwatch will send up to 500 high school students* and their teachers:

Volunteer collecting data Into the world's most beautiful and endangered places-homes to threatened animals and ecosystems-to perform hands-on field science
Sea turtle hatchling in Trinidad. Photo copyright Michelle Jost. Into close contact with remarkable creatures in their native habitats
Teacher and student in the field. Into the field with working scientists—not tour guides—and local residents to help them save natural and cultural resources

Earthwatch expeditions are perfect for:

  • Community service or community based learning
  • Winter term, intersession, and spring break or summer vacation
  • College application essays
  • Professional development

Earthwatch groups bring back more than just pretty pictures of famous places. We engage students and teachers in the real work of our time:

  • Studying global climate change
  • Promoting the sustainable use of natural resources
  • Preserving vanishing cultures
  • Restoring and protecting the health of the world's oceans
