Earthwatch is unique in offering hands-on, scientific research expeditions to school groups in stunning locations around the world, developing professional skills in a responsible and safe environment.
Lead an Earthwatch expedition, and you’ll make a positive difference not only to the planet, but to the lives and attitudes of yourself and your students. You’ll also find a unique experience where you’ll participate in hands-on, scientific research, working to mitigate some of the world’s most pressing environmental issues.
From snorkeling through crystal clear Bahamian waters, to conserving the Amazon Rainforest; from excavating a Roman fort in north England to monitoring hyaenas in South Africa, an extensive range of projects based in over twenty countries will allow you to engage and educate your students beyond the boundaries of a classroom.
You’ll work with world-class scientists and local communities to help them protect natural and cultural resources, encouraging both professional and personal growth, reinforcing classroom teaching, all in the confidence that you are making a significant contribution to the welfare of our planet and its diverse inhabitants, not only by learning, but also by putting knowledge into practice.
What’s more, we’ll help you every step of the way.
Earthwatch school group expeditions can be organized for groups ranging from 6 to 20 participants. Teachers can join with no contribution required for every six students recruited. See Terms and Conditions.
School group expeditions are designed for students age 16 and up.

Earthwatch is the best
- In a study of 155 available opportunities worldwide, National Geographic Adventure ranked Earthwatch number one in both volunteering and education.
- Bradt's Wildlife & Conservation Volunteering, The Complete Guide, names Earthwatch as one of the top international wildlife and conservation organizations, with Earthwatch being the only organisation to achieve the maximum score for its "demonstrable achievements" - the area which the book describes as "potentially the most important criterion for assessing organizations".
