Earthwatch expeditions send volunteers around the world to help research scientists gather data about some of the most critical environmental issues facing the planet today.

Fellowships
Earthwatch Institute is offering expedition fellowships to U.S. Forest Service personnel in Southern California. The Borun Family Foundation grant covers expedition costs and your travel expenses up to $1000.

Expedition Experience
As a fellow, you will develop professionally by gaining scientific knowledge and skills, expand your understanding of other ecosystems, major issues facing the management of natural resources, and an opportunity to examine how the world's largest scientific volunteer organizations manages a volunteer experience. On the expedition, you will participate with a team of volunteers to carry out scientific research as part of a research project.

Upon your return, you will be expected to share your experiences with colleagues and the public with the goal of adding value to U.S. forest service practice. You will also be expected to participate in an evaluation of the experience, which will involve a phone or in-person interview. Details are on the downloadable application below.

If awarded a fellowship, you will be assigned to a project that relates to your current job, and may include one of these expeditions:

Life in the Rainforest Canopy
Restoring Vietnam's Rainforests
Lemurs and Forests of Madagascar
Mangroves of the Kenyan Coast
Wildlife Trails of the American West
