Dressed in beads and robes, the Samburu are very photogenic in their traditional costume, strikingly colourful and spectacular. In this important cultural ritual, Samburu morans take the hands of young Samburu girls gathered for the event - probably future wives - leading them slowly forwards, chanting as they go. With their eyes closed, immersed in the moment, the morans lead their partners around a circle, all the while moving gently and rhythmically up and down, with their humming and singing filling the air. The Samburu agree to perform this ceremony at the end of the volunteers’ two-week project, to allow the visitors to get a deeper insight into their cultural heritage.
