'Canopy Meg' visits Earthwatch Project at Bangalore
Earthwatch trustee and renowned environmentalist Dr. Meg Lowman, known as ‘Canpoy Meg’ recently visited the Earthwatch project in Bangalore.

25 HSBC Volunteers took part in the project, organised by Earthwatch as part of its partnership with HSBC, at Forest Trails in Bannerghatta.
The highlight of this event was the presence of Dr. Lowman, who is Director of Nature Research Center at North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. She gave an insightful address to the HSBC Volunteers on ‘Climate Change and its impacts’. Her lecture was followed by an experience sharing session delivered by D.K Bhaskar based on the readings of his latest book titled, “The Fragile Forest: Inside Brazilian Amazonia”.
The HSBC Volunteers were guided by taxonomists, who helped them understand the phenological features of economically important trees of that forest like Sandalwood, Rosewood, Sal and Teak. Accompanied by ornithologists, the team identified and recorded species of birds, including Red Whiskered Bulbul, Leaf Warbler, Blyths Reed Warbler, Tailor Bird, Black Drongo, Lark, Booted Hawl Eagle, Red Vented Bulbul, Red Wattled Lapwing, Cormorant and Indian Robin.
