Earthwatch Institute's mission is to promote sustainable conservation of our natural resources and cultural heritage by creating partnerships between scientists, educators and the general public. To realize this mission, Earthwatch Institute has three recognized areas of focus: Research, Education and Conservation. This year, Earthwatch will sponsor over 130 scientific field research projects in 49 countries and 18 American states, making estimated volunteer field grants of $3.7 million.

Stakeholder Engagement Intern

The Engagement intern is responsible for supporting the Engagement Department in a variety of tasks related to fellowships and the development of outreach and curriculum support materials.

Volunteer Outreach Intern

The Volunteer Outreach intern is responsible for supporting the Volunteer Outreach Department in a variety of sales and administrative related tasks.

Research Associate/Intern

Research associate interns will assist the Research Department in a variety of tasks relating to the outcomes and impacts of field research projects Earthwatch supports in four Research Areas: Climate Change, Ecosystem Services, Oceans, and Cultural Heritage. RA interns will evaluate projects’ achievements relating to conservation, education, publication, environmental impacts, long-term legacy, capacity building, and partnerships.

Field Management Intern

Field Management interns will assist the Field Management (FM) department with various aspects of the Earthwatch expedition management program. The FM department is responsible for stewardship of the relationship between Earthwatch and our Principal Investigators, and ensuring a safe, inspiring, and educational experience for volunteers on our 90+ Earthwatch projects.

Briefings Production Intern

The Briefings Production Intern will work in Earthwatch Institute’s Field Management Department in Maynard, Massachusetts. The Intern will assist the Briefings Editor with Expedition Briefings production, including creating first-draft versions by transferring project information to a briefing template and/or renewal form, preparing final briefings and their covers for the printer, and performing administrative duties such as filing briefings upon their return from the printer and placing print and paper orders as needed.

Education Internship Opportunity

Education associate interns will assist the Volunteer Programs Department in a variety of tasks relating to the educational components of Earthwatch’s various student opportunities: Teen teams, Student groups and Independent Schools Initiative. EA interns will be both adapting existing learning modules to better suit a teen audience as well as developing learning curriculum from current materials for a more formal educational packet. Educational packets would serve to transition the environmental experiential education gained through Earthwatch expeditions into sustained learning.
