Earthwatch Teams Unearth Chavín Human Remains
The remains of three humans were found by teams working in Peru's Casma Valley yield more questions than answers.
Earthwatch teams, working this past summer with archaeologist Ivan Ghezzi (Yale University) in Peru's Casma Valley discovered the remains of three humans in their excavations of Chavín settlements in Peru, including a young child, an adolescent, and a robust adult male in his 40s. The latter burial was at least 2,000 years old, and was clearly the result of a sacrifice or murder, because the man's hands were tied behind his back with an ornately decorated rope, although there was no apparent cause of death. Further study of this well-preserved find will significantly add to the understanding of Pre-Inca Civilization.
