Allianz Employees Engage in One-Day Earthwatch Program

In June Allianz sent 15 employees from across the business on a one-day Earthwatch team to Paradise Wood in Oxfordshire, UK to collect data about climate change and forests, learn about sustainability and begin to plan how what they learned links back in to Allianz. Every single participant said the experience was professionally valuable to them.

The goal of this unique program was to empower Allianz employees with the knowledge and support they need to deliver environmental sustainability action plans within Allianz.

As a leading insurance company and a major employer, Allianz recognises the importance of running its business in a responsible way. Allianz aims to deliver exceptional financial performance and growth, whilst minimising its negative impacts on the environment and positively contributing to the communities in which it operates.

"The location of the event was excellent. The facilitation of the day was excellent. The science of climate change was well delivered and informative. It was great to get involved in data collection in the field” said one participant.

Another was impressed with the relevance to Allianz as a business saying "In terms of value... linking it back to Allianz was of the most use for me personally. "
The pilot program went so well that Allianz now hopes to send more key staff to the program.

"Earthwatch is delighted to have been invited to provide environmental and sustainability opportunities for Allianz employees. The group was really committed and so we’re confident this will have a benefit to the environment as well as their business. We’re looking forward to rolling this out to more key people at Allianz” said James Campbell, International Director of Corporate Development for Earthwatch.

Earthwatch's relationship with Allianz has grown over the years. Allianz Insurance has worked with Earthwatch to engage their employees in environmental issues; by offering them the opportunity to be part of an Earthwatch Expedition and make a real difference to the environment. By learning about our planet and how humans interact with the environment, ecosystems and the species that inhabit them; Allianz employees gain insight into how individuals, businesses and governments can protect our environment, safeguarding it for future generations.

The success of this partnership can best be summed up by the words of another Allianz employee who participated in the Paradise Wood experience: "The most positive impact for me was the way the rest of the team were so willing and keen to absorb the information on climate change, analyse the data and then apply it to their own areas of work in the business and come up with ideas on how to take it forward in Allianz.
