These Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data sets were created by
Fred Atieno of
Bioversity International, Principal Investigator at the Earthwatch
Kenya Field Center in Samburu.
The data was collected by Mr. Atieno, Drs. Kotut, Njue, and Ogweno, field staff and technicians, community fellows, and Earthwatch volunteers on two projects: Water and Community Health and Wildlife Habitats of Samburu.
This information will be used to help the Samburu people maintain a sustainable lifestyle and co-exist with the area wildlife. This will be done through helping local communities plan their land use better for settlement, grazing, and conservation activities using these resource maps.
The data is available in Shapefile format. GIS software is required to open these files. We are working to make the data available in Google Earth.
